1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus

Content that appears on hover or focus — tooltips, dropdowns, popovers — can be dismissed, hovered over, and stays visible until dismissed.

Manual only No automated check says anything useful.

How it fails in practice

A tooltip that vanishes the moment the pointer moves toward it, so its content can never be read by somebody using magnification.

How to fix it

Keep the popup open while the pointer is over either the trigger or the popup, dismiss it on Esc, and do not put it on a timer.

How far an automated check gets

Nothing automatic decides this. A scanner that reports it as passing is reporting that it did not look. It stays untested until a person tests it and records what they did — which is exactly how we treat it: as untested, not as passed.
