A time limit must be adjustable, extendable, or turnable off — with rare exceptions like a live auction.

How it fails in practice
A checkout that expires a basket after ten minutes with a two-second warning. A banking session that logs out mid-form with no way to ask for longer.
How to fix it
Warn before the limit, let the user extend it with one action, and give at least twenty seconds to respond.
